What's Up? Annapolis profiled Janet Richardson-Pearson in a feature article titled "Fulfilling a Lifelong Vision," recognizing her philanthropy and effort to preserve the property where The Village at Providence Point is now under construction.
The article explores how Richardson-Pearson and her neighbors were alarmed in the 1990s when U.S. Homes proposed a massive development on 200 acres of farmland across the creek from her property. Concerned about the impact, she eventually purchased the land to prevent intensive commercial development.
"But I realized to save it, I needed to pay for it," she said, prompting a search for the right project for a portion of the land that would preserve the property's character while serving the community.
Drawing on her experience with her mother's senior living needs, Richardson-Pearson found that fit in a Life Plan Community developed by National Lutheran Communities & Services.
